Crochet Hook Holder

Hi Everyone!

Oooh! Isn't it chilly?

This is a mainly picture post as we have been away for the weekend to snowy Wiltshire and also Gloucester so very little time to write a post.  I wanted to share my creation with you as it's the first time I've got the sewing machine out in a long time.  I also didn't want to miss out, as it is Wendy's 100th post over on Handmade Monday.  Yippee! Congratulations Wendy!

I have been meaning to make a holder for my hooks for a while now, but I wanted a nice large one so I didn't run out of space.

I chose some pretty red floral fabric I had in my stash and edged it in red cotton also from my stash.

You can see how long (wide) it is in this picture.  I even had red ribbon for the fastenings, in the right 'red', in my stash too.

Here is the inside.  I added a flap to prevent the hooks from falling out.

Some of you may remember I had a little play with embroidery, so rather than waste my efforts I thought I would put it to some use.

I embroidered some simple birds on a perch either side of the word .......

You can see I stitched different size spaces for the hooks in gold to pick up the gold in the flowers on the fabric.

And there you have it! A completed crochet hook roll with plenty of space for all my hooks :)

What do you all use to store your equipment?  Have you made things to suit you or have you found some really useful ready made storage?  I'd love to hear from you all.

Thanks for reading!  I'm off to watch 'Call the Midwife' now.  See you over at Handmade Monday.

Extreme Crochet Hearts

BLOG TITLEA very warm welcome to everyone out there! Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine :)  This is the first time I have linked up to We Did It Wednesday over at Sew Much Ado but lets hope it will be the first of many!
I would like to share some Extreme Crochet with you!
What? I hear you ask.
Extreme crochet is using multiple yarns with a huge hook.
Taking crochet to the extreme - so to speak!

Before I show you my latest creations I have listed links to my previous posts for those of you who are not already familiar with Fiddly Fingers.
I hope you like what you see - Look out for Chester!!!

And now you've all caught up, take a look at my newest creations!

I'd finished this basket one evening and was wondering how to photograph it!
The following day a trip to the supermarket was a necessity and being a bit peckish (never a good time to go shopping!) I bought some hot cross buns - two packets actually (buy 1 get 1 free offer!).It was soon after this I had one of those 'ping' moments!  Hence the photo!
The basket is made using 20 strands of yarn and a 25mm hook.
If you click on the link below you will be able to see the size of the hook!

You may be asking yourselves why I am making these?  Well as you will see from 'Chester the Extreme Crochet Cat' link.  It's all my sister-in-law's fault!!  I started with Chester, on a 12mm hook with 5 strands of yarn, then decided to try something a littler larger!  These are my experiements for workshops I will be running in the near future.  I need projects that can be completed within the day long workshop.  So far I have made a really big flower and a 2 round granny square seat pad (see link 'Experimenting with Extreme Crochet' as well as the basket above and heart below.  If you are interested in either workshops just (you guessed it!) click on the following links
and

Here is the latest addition to my experiments.

The photograph below shows the scale!

I thought this heart would make a lovely wall decoration and I even thought it would be handy to hang 'hooky' earrings on.
If you have any other ideas for me to create in extreme crochet please let me know and if I manage to make any I can put a link to your blog when I put up a picture.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Happy hooking!
X

More Extreme Crochet!

Hi guys
Am posting from my sick bed (well sick sofa actually!).  I've got a cold - aaaaah! So have done very little today but fiddle on the computer.  I've been reading a fantastic post 'How to get on page one of google' http://www.ukcraftblog.com/2011/10/how-to-get-on-page-one-of-google.html but am now totally swamped with information!!  And it will definitely be a slow climb to the top of the Google list!! But I have at least now got something to work on.

Extreme Hooks - can be made to order

I wanted to share these humongous, hunky hooks with you :)  Aren't they wonderful?  I just love them!  What do you think?  Would you like to have a play with something as hunky as this? ;)
Starting on the left is a 12mm hook, then a 5.5mm and a 2mm.  These hunky hooks are about 25mm!!
I have a very special husband who made these for me out of a broom pole.  Not the best wood ever but it's certainly done the trick. I think you'll agree he's done a brilliant job.  I can't thank him enough, he's saved me pounds (and him!!)

You can see from the two pictures above they are about 25mm and 10" long.
Look at the size of the stitches!!  I'm going to have to do some serious 'playing'.  I'm sooo excited!!
To be honest I should also thank Donna at Little Tiny Stitches http://lovehopecraft.blogspot.com/2011/07/huge-hook.html as I came across her blog and instructions on how to make these hunky guys!  So thank you for the inspiration Donna!
You may be wondering why there are 4 hooks, all the same size.  Well let me put you out of your misery!  We have friends coming to stay this weekend and Ally and I are having a 'play'.  The theme being Extreme Crochet - what a surprise!  So we needed at least 2 hooks to play with and I know as soon as my daughter sees what we are up to she'll want a go, so there's 3 and I can think of someone else who may be interested too!!! (You know who you are Liz!)  So that's why there are 4  .... ta da!
I have a bit of mini crochet to show you too, but will do that another day.  Happy crocheting!! See you soon.

If anyone is interested in purchasing an extreme crochet hook, please email me with your requirements.  My husband can make them to order at a very reasonable price!
