Crochet Hook Holder

Hi Everyone!

Oooh! Isn't it chilly?

This is a mainly picture post as we have been away for the weekend to snowy Wiltshire and also Gloucester so very little time to write a post.  I wanted to share my creation with you as it's the first time I've got the sewing machine out in a long time.  I also didn't want to miss out, as it is Wendy's 100th post over on Handmade Monday.  Yippee! Congratulations Wendy!

I have been meaning to make a holder for my hooks for a while now, but I wanted a nice large one so I didn't run out of space.

I chose some pretty red floral fabric I had in my stash and edged it in red cotton also from my stash.

You can see how long (wide) it is in this picture.  I even had red ribbon for the fastenings, in the right 'red', in my stash too.

Here is the inside.  I added a flap to prevent the hooks from falling out.

Some of you may remember I had a little play with embroidery, so rather than waste my efforts I thought I would put it to some use.

I embroidered some simple birds on a perch either side of the word .......

You can see I stitched different size spaces for the hooks in gold to pick up the gold in the flowers on the fabric.

And there you have it! A completed crochet hook roll with plenty of space for all my hooks :)

What do you all use to store your equipment?  Have you made things to suit you or have you found some really useful ready made storage?  I'd love to hear from you all.

Thanks for reading!  I'm off to watch 'Call the Midwife' now.  See you over at Handmade Monday.

    1. Thank you :)Purely a means to an end!! I hate having things I've made just hidden away so usually try to make things I can use. I wanted to have a go at embroidery (well strictly speaking this is mainly fine cross stitch!) so thought I may as well do something I could use at a later date. Eventually I got around to using it!!

  4. What a great idea. I have two knitting needle cases, but I always have to tip all the needles out when I want to find some. Your embroidery is really pretty too.

  6. I don't crochet, but I do knit and I use interchangeable needles. I've made a couple of these cosies to keep them all tidy and organised. It's so nice when it's exactly what you want isn't it. http://judiknitsandsews.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/pretty-interchangeable-knitting-needle.html

    1. I've just popped over to have a look at yours Judi. I love all the pockets you've added, these will be very useful and what a pretty fabric too :) I'm sure the recipient was overjoyed with it. Sometimes you just have to make it yourself, as often bought storage just doesn't fit the bill!

  7. I made a roll for my knitting needles, and a bag for the hooks - but nothing as pretty as this! Lovely x

  8. I love it, the fabric is bright and cheery, it's great when you can make something that's exactly what you need. Love the embroidery detail too.
The nearest I've made to one of these was a crayon roll and the first one I done didn't have a flap to stop the crayons falling out... ooopps.

  12. That is gorgeous, and the birds are brilliant! I'd like to make something similar for knitting needles but wonder if it will be too big? This is my first time visiting your blog via Handmade Monday but will be back to see what you create with all those hooks!

    1. Lovely to see you over here :) My hook holder is about 62cm wide with 31 spaces. Obviously it would need to be a little taller but I think it probably would be do-able. Just popping over to have a look at your blog now. It's always good to meet fellow bloggers :)

  18. This is really pretty, and very practical. I just made a bag for my crochet hooks but I like yours - it's like a jewellery roll. I think I might just make another now! (I have a stash so big I could hide in it!)
